Josiah's First Stitches

WARNING:  Graphic images below (Seriously- it's gross).

So I got "the call" again on Wednesday.  I get it at least once a year for Josiah and every other year for Kate.  It goes something like this:  "Hello. This is the school.  We got the bleeding stopped but we think you need to come and see this."  Really?  He doesn't even have recess anymore.  Ah, but he does have P.E. and they play hockey.  I really should not have been surprised.  They were just were warming up and he got hit in the head WITH A HOCKEY STICK (not even close to the goal OR THE PUCK!).  Freak accident.  In his own words (spoken pretty sarcastically) "It was pretty heroic".  Actually he was pretty heroic because he tried not to get any blood on the ice.  Which was his friends first question to him "Did you get any blood on the ice?".  Well, second question actually.  The first question was "What happened?". He was headed to the bathroom to clean himself up when the skate guards "tackled him".  He said they pretty much picked him up, carried him to a bench and layed him down.  Then (Josiah's words) "had at it with band aids, scissors and not sure what else they used".  Head wounds bleed a lot.  Josiah said he was covered with blood.  He said it took a while to clean up.  He still looked pretty messy when I saw him.  When I got there, he had a rather large band aid across his head.  They told me he needed stitches.  I asked if I could look at it first. Our Pediatrician was able to stitch him back together.  It was a first for us.  Our Doctor asked how he had made it this long without getting stitches.  Josiah answered "Streri-strips and Butterfly bandages".  In fact, on the way to the doctors office Josiah asked if Uncle William was around to day.  Will has patched him up before and has done a very good job (minimal scarring).  All in all, it was quite the day- 5 stitches.  At least I got to spend some quality time with Josiah while we waited for his head to go numb!

 It doesn't look too bad but it was pretty deep.  I used my phone so you can't see the gruesome details.  I forgot my camera.  What kind of mom am I?  I guess I just heard "head wound" and didn't think about the camera.  I did call the pediatricians office and my sister, Vicki, on my way out the door though.

Kates horse riding lessons

We have found a great riding lesson for Kate.  She has been a few times and is really enjoying it.

This is the indoor arean where she rides.  It is a really nice facility.  The open door off to the left is where the stables are. 

Stables

They have these cute miniture ponies.  Kate doesn't ride them.

This is the horse Kate rides.  He is a sixteen year old quarter horse.  His name is Skiz.  He has been great!

Yesterday was Kates first time roping.  She really liked it and picked it up pretty quick.

Boots

These are Kates new boots. 

One of the ironies of my blog is that the more I have to blog about, the less time I have to blog.  We have done so much this summer that I haven't had a lot of time to write about it.  I'm going to try to write about all we have done, but it won't be in chronological order.

Last weekend, the kids and I went to Mom and Dads.  It was a great weekend!  Kate "had to" get in the river because she had ants "all over her".  The kids stayed up late every night playing tag and ghost in the graveyard with Tyler.  We all got together for dinner and laughed a lot!  It was the typical weekend at Grandma's and Grandpa's.  Of course we all missed having G'ma and G'pa there. 

Vicki made the best birthday card for Mom and Cody on smilebox.  The movie (below) is when we were taking the pictures for the card.  (I thought you would like a "behind-the-scenes" look, Mom.  Love ya!)

Justin and Jailee's Wedding

Another one of my handsome nephews got married.  This is the third since January.  Justin and Jailee are a great couple.  They are very happy and love being together.  It was a very joyous and merry occasion.  I love these boys.  I tended Justin when he was very little in the summer time.  We had a great time singing and riding bikes together.

Oquirrh Mountain Temple

 

Is it just me, or does William always look like he is up to something?  He kept getting me in trouble at the Temple.  Just kidding.  He saved me from a coughing attack in a very quiet place with a "Life Savor".

 Justin and Jailee came out the West door.  There is a really nice garden on that side.
Jailee spray-painted her boots for the occasion.  They were so cute!  Justin was a great sport and held her bouquet for her whenever she needed him to.  He was funny about it.  He even took time to smell the flowers.

 

Check out Tiff's boots.  They were sooooo COOL! 

The Reception

Look at the neat back drop they made.

This is the fence that marked where the line was suppose to start.  It was by Aunt Percillas house (in the front yard).  They had the gate opened there and just inside was the book.


Kate pointed out that the log looks like a heart.



This is a video I shot before the reception started.  I was trying to let you see how the yard was set up.  It looked really good.  Vicki did a great job with arranging it and with decorations.  Her flowers looked really beautiful and the fences and back drop was perfect.  I happened to catch Justin and Jailee changing their shoes (or taking them off).  Notice, Justin has the bouquet.
